He Will Keep You

Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. Jude 24–25

We find ourselves in uncharted waters. Our life boats are being rocked by the tumultuous waters of uncertainty. What weighs upon our minds and hearts is not just fear. To reduce it to merely fear is a failure to fully acknowledge the spectrum of emotions. The variety of emotions that travel from the freeway of the mind and heart. Right now, many us feel utterly helpless. It grips us nearly as much as fear. None of us are able to speed past this moment in history. There are no dolereans, but there is a delightful truth in our helplessness — Him who is able to keep you. This word “keep” can also be translated “guard.” It carries the connotation of military protection. In this doxological moment, the half-brother of the Lord Jesus, Jude, provides confidence to the church that Christ able to keep you. Christ can protect you. No one, no disease, no attack can snatch a sheep from the hand of the Lord Jesus [John 10:28]. You might feel helpless, but find this truth helpful. God the Son possesses the power to preserve His people in midst of the most dire of circumstances. Rest in this brother and sisters. Allow this promise to guard your heart in these uncertain times. We can rest assured that if Christ has power to solve the disease of sin then what we face today is yet a small matter in the scope of His sovereignty. May this truth produce confidence in you for the good news that Jesus will keep you. He will hold you fast.

Prayer

Eternal and Sovereign God,
All glory, majesty, dominion, and authority belong to you, and you alone. Though I am helpless and powerless, Christ Jesus you are not. Those whom you have justified are those whom you glorify. Forgive me for my unbelief. I easily allow uncertainty to rob me of my blessed assurance. Grant me faith to trust you are able to keep me. Holy Spirit, teach my heart to believe that Christ will keep me each and every day of my life upon this earth.

Amen.
