Member Candidates — August 2026

Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
— 1 Corinthians 12:27

The local church is not a casual gathering of religious consumers, but a covenant people purchased by the blood of Jesus Christ and gathered beneath His Lordship. The Church is the household of God, the pillar and buttress of the truth, and the visible embassy of Christ’s Kingdom upon the earth (1 Timothy 3:15).

Because of this, receiving covenant members should never be approached lightly or merely administratively. At Doxa Church, we desire a meaningful, accountable, and joy-filled church membership rooted in Scripture, shaped by love for Christ, and aimed at helping one another persevere in the faith.

As we prepare to receive new covenant members, we want the church to know the people we are preparing to welcome into the covenant life and mission of this fellowship. Below you will find the stories of our member candidates—how the Lord brought them to faith in Jesus Christ and how they would answer one of the most important questions anyone can answer: What is the gospel?

Take some time to read their stories, rejoice in the grace of God displayed in their lives, and pray for them as we prepare to receive them into covenant membership at Doxa Church.

How and when did you become a Christian?

In 2003, I was serving as a volunteer worship leader as a college student at what was then called Soul Survivor Church in Cedar City, Utah.  I was a youth group kid and could articulate the gospel.  I wanted to be saved, but I had not bowed the knee to Christ as Lord.  The pastor, after I had been leading worship for about 6 months, preached a particularly powerful gospel message that wrecked me. While I was playing background music for him, I saw my hypocrisy and sin before a Holy God.  I was leading His people in worship, but I was not being led by Him.  I was broken and restored at the same time.  I left the stage and prayed with the team, and Christ saved me through that calling of the gospel.

What is the Gospel?

Jesus Christ, who is God the Son, YHWH of eternity, came in the flesh and lived a perfect life, fulfilled all prophecy, died on a Roman cross, was buried and rose on the third day, and He ascended to sit at the right hand of the Father where He reigns as King of Kings.  We who are saved as a benefit of that gospel, hear the good news of His unmerited mercy.  We are saved by grace alone through faith alone according to Scripture alone in Christ alone to the glory of God alone.  The Gospel is NOT a story of how I got saved, it is a story of how Christ was proved to be who He said He was, vindicated and victorious, and as a measure of His own glory He has saved a particular people unto Himself, not by our works but by His mercy.

How and when did you become a Christian?

I grew up in church, said the sinner’s prayer, made a profession of faith, and was baptized at a young age. It wasn’t until 3 years ago that I realized I wasn’t truly saved. During a difficult season in life, I turned to the Scriptures and was listening to a sermon on Matthew 7. I had heard and read that Scripture probably dozens of times throughout the years, but it hit me like a ton of bricks. I realized I was a sinner headed for hell, which I deserved. I wept and cried to God, asking for His forgiveness and to help me turn from my sin. The cross took on a new meaning for me. I began to crave God’s Word and wanted to know more about my Savior. He’s changed my desires. Sin, I once loved, I now hate. Praise God, I am His.

What is the Gospel?

Sin entered the world due to man’s rebellion and separated us from God.  Our penalty is death. God sent His only Son to pay that penalty on the cross. Because of God’s grace, if we repent and turn from our sins and put our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord, we can be reunited with our Father.

How and when did you become a Christian?

I said a prayer in church accepting Jesus into my heart around age 7 or 8, assuming that meant I was saved. For years to come, I’d make choices reflecting my lostness and my brokenness. What I didn’t realize was that just because I had some knowledge of who Jesus was didn’t mean I had a real relationship with Him. It wasn’t until I was a full-grown woman at one of the lowest emotional points in my life that I realized I had been relying on everything but Jesus all those years. I stopped my car on the side of the road and surrendered my life to Christ that day. That was 9 years ago. I’ve grown a lot as a believer since then. I know this growth will continue until He calls me home.

What is the Gospel?

The gospel is the good news that God sent His one and only son, Jesus, who lived a perfect and sinless life, to pay the penalty for our sins so that those who are called according to His will would repent, believe, and spend eternity with Him in heaven.
